This year, the Eid-ul-Fitr festival in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, will begin on the evening of Sunday, 24 May and ends in the evening of Monday, 25 May. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims from all over the world, prepare feasts and family gatherings.
Eid-ul-Fitr, also known as the ‘festival of breaking the fast’, marks the end of a month-long period of dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. During the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Muslims all over the world abstain from food and water during the period between sunrise to sunset. Eid is the only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast.
The celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr festivities begin with the sighting of the crescent moon and generally go on for about three days. The families get together to celebrate this auspicious day with several mouth-watering delicacies.
